"Did you know, Kate, that Caribbean women are the hottest search in the Online Dating Scene?"
Winnie should know, she hosts the new WUVING.com and sees all the trends on the scene.
And Caribbean girls are looking for men who are wanting real, lifelong relationships and marriage.
Situated largely on the Caribbean Plate, the region comprises more than 7000 islands, islets, reefs, and cays. These islands, called the West Indies, are home to some of the most exciting singles around. The Caribbean Sea is a sea of the Atlantic Ocean situated in the tropics of the Western hemisphere, bounded to the south and west by the American landmass, it is so close geographically, and yet so far away in its easier, more traditional lifestyle.
Some islands in the region have relatively flat terrain of non-volcanic origin. Such islands include Aruba (possessing only minor volcanic features), Barbados, Bonaire, the Cayman Islands or Antigua. Others possess rugged towering mountain-ranges like the islands of Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Puerto Rico, Saba, Saint Kitts, Saint Lucia, Grenada, Saint Vincent, Guadeloupe, and Trinidad & Tobago.

The Caribbean: Walking Through The History of St. Thomas
Though St. Thomas is known as one of the best shopping destinations in the Caribbean, the island is also home to a wealth of historical intrigue. Within a concentrated area of St. Thomas' capital city, Charlotte Amalie, visitors will find everything from ornate churches and government buildings to colonial forts and mythical pirate outposts.
If you want to experience St. Thomas' fascinating history, there is no better way to see the sights than a walk through Charlotte Amalie amongst the beautiful Caribbean weather.
The best place to start a walking tour of Charlotte Amalie's historic sites is Fort Christian, a Danish-built structure dating to the late 17th century.
Visible throughout Charlotte Amalie, this vivid red-brick fort is in fact the oldest remaining structure in the Virgin Islands. Having served as a government center and a church after the colonial period, Fort Christian is now a National Historic Landmark and history museum. After visiting the museum, be sure to visit the roof of Fort Christian for an excellent panoramic view of the harbour.
Directly across the street from Fort Christian, you will see the historic Legislature Building, a beautifully rebuilt colonial structure. After serving as barracks for Danish police and later for U.S. Marines, the Legislature Building was completed restored in 1956 and has served as home to local lawmakers since 1970.
From the courtyard of the Legislature Building, turn left and follow the sidewalk to the first traffic light. At the traffic light, turn right and look for the Vendor's Plaza on your left. Above this outdoor market, you will find Emancipation Park, the site of many official ceremonies and the Virgin Islands' replica of the Liberty Bell.
Directly across the street from Emancipation Park is the Grand Hotel, a 19th century structure that now houses a number of small shops and restaurants. After perusing the unique businesses inside the Grand Hotel, walk towards Fort Christian and turn left up the first narrow road.
At the top of the narrow path, you will come upon one of St. Thomas' most significant churches, the golden Lutheran Church. Known for its large staircase and bright yellow color, the church is one of the most photographed buildings in St. Thomas. Once the official church of the Danish West Indies, the Lutheran Church is still used for services today.
Turning right after leaving the Lutheran Church, you will walk past Post Office Square and a trio of statues. As you continue up Government Hill, you will come upon a street known as Kongens Gade, site of the 99 Steps. Constructed in the mid-18th century, these steps represent the Danes' attempt at city planning near the hilly shores of St. Thomas.
If you choose to follow the street rather than climbing the staircase, you will find the historic Government House - a building known for its collection of paintings by Camille Pissaro - on your immediate left.
However, if you climb the 99 Steps, you will find yourself on the easiest route to Blackbeard's Castle, one of St. Thomas' most popular sights.
Blackbeard's Castle is actually a large watch tower that once belonged to the Danish Fort Trygborg. As Blackbeard's Castle rests atop Government Hill, the structure provides an excellent view of the harbor. Though it is not known when the watch tower came to be known as Blackbeard's Castle, local legend has it that the famous pirate used the watch tower to patrol for rival ships.
The land surrounding Blackbeard's Castle is home to several town house museums, including Villa Notman and The Haagensen House. In each case, these musuems house everything from antiques to valuable Danish furniture.
After leaving the area of Blackbeard's Castle, return to the area of Post Office Square and Main Street. After turning right onto Main Street, look on the right for a small street called Nye Gade.
One block up from Main Street at the corner of Crystal Gade and Nye Gade, you will find the pictuesque St. Thomas Reformed Church. Known as the island's finest example of classical revival architecture, the St. Thomas Reformed Church resembles a Roman temple, complete with large supporting columns.
Turning left onto Crystal Gade, you will quickly come upon the St. Thomas Synagogue, the second-oldest synagogue in the Western Hemisphere. Having served an incredibly significant spiritual role during the colonial period, the St. Thomas Synagogue is still used today under Sephardic tradition. As a result, the St. Thomas Synagogue features the traditional sand-covered floor, a symbol of the Jewish flight from Egypt.
Returning to Main Street along the same route, you will be in the heart of St. Thomas' shopping district. Turning right at Main Street and following the road to the end of the shopping district, you will come upon Market Square, a former slave market that now serves as an open-air produce and craft market.
One block further up Main Street, you will find St. Thomas' primary Catholic church, Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral. Constructed in 1806, the cathedral is known for its ornate murals painted by Belgian artists, Father Leo Servais and Brother Ildephonsus.
While history probably won't be the first thing on your mind while in St. Thomas, the island features a wealth of important sites within a very walkable area. After enjoying the beach and the relaxing amenities of your resort, this simple walking tour of Charlotte Amalie offers a great way to spend a sunny afternoon.
> Magens Bay: St. Thomas' Family Beach Destination.
Though known as one of the top shopping destinations in the Caribbean and an easy getaway for American travelers, St. Thomas also boasts some of the world's top beaches and a wide assortment of recreation options.
While excellent beaches can be found at all corners of the island, the stretch of sand regularly cited as one of the best overall beaches in the Caribbean region can be found along St. Thomas' scenic northern coast. Magens Bay is an idyllic destination, a mile-long stretch of white sand dotted with palm trees.
As this incredible beach remains largely undeveloped, there is also plenty of space to relax in the sand or play in the calm, blue waters offshore. Throughout the year, Magens Bay offers excellent opportunities for swimming, snorkeling, picnicking and a variety of other activities.
Despite being located on the windswept and dramatic northern shore of St. Thomas, Magens Bay has become one of the island's best family-friendly beaches thanks to some unique geography.
Unlike most of the beaches on the north end of the island, Magens Bay is protected by a pair of offshore peninsulas that prevent the steady Caribbean surf from entering the bay.
As a result, the water offshore remains calm, warm and safe for family activities throughout the year. Activities like swimming and wading have become incredibly popular at Magens Bay, as the pebble-free sand extends well into the Caribbean Sea, adding to the comfort of the warm tropical waters.
Magens Bay is also one of the island's most successful public beach projects, as small entrance fees have helped St. Thomas implement regular maintenance, staff the beach with lifeguards and construct unmatched restroom and shower facilities. In recent years, a number of snack shacks have popped up along the beach, while several charming restaurants and bars rest within easy walking distance of the shore.
Magens Bay is also a great destination for water sports such as snorkeling, kayaking and sailing, as on-site rental shops offer affordable equipment and tour options. While interesting underwater sights can be found throughout the area, the secluded western end of the bay has become one of the northern shore's most popular snorkeling sites.
Home to a wide variety of tropical fish species, the placid cove found at the western end of the beach serves as one of St. Thomas' most captivating, but family-friendly snorkeling sites. Families can also enjoy the calm water in kayaks, paddleboats and other unique watercrafts, or take part in sailing tours offshore where the consistent trade winds provide excellent recreation opportunities year-round.
Those that want to admire the beach at Magens Bay and the Caribbean Sea from above should visit the adjacent attraction known as Drake's Seat.
Perched atop the majestic seaside cliff beside Magens Bay, Drake's Seat is rumored to have been a lookout for Sir Francis Drake, the famous 16th century colonial captain and explorer.
Having seized command of St. Thomas, Drake is thought to have watched his own ships and encroaching vessels from this now popular scenic destination. Visitors to the site will find a bench perched on the highest point of the cliff and a view overlooking Magens Bay and the Caribbean Sea beyond. As a result, Drake's Seat has become one of the most popular photographic destinations on the island, especially during the late afternoon and early evening hours when the setting sun highlights the exotic scenery.
This popular sightseeing destination is visited by most of St. Thomas' guided tours, but travelers with rental cars or recreational vehicles will also be able to reach the site with ease. Drake's Seat is located just off Route 40, the main road running along St. Thomas' northern shore.
Though Magens Bay attracts plenty of visitors throughout the year, this spacious beach always has ample room to relax or play in the water. As Magens Bay also promises a truly unique Caribbean experience - often more relaxed and family-friendly than many of the region's most famous beaches - this charming coastal destination has become one of St. Thomas' can't-miss sights.
> Experience St. Kitts' Welcoming Culture in Cayon.
Though the historic and scenic capital of Basseterre certainly deserves to be the most-visited community in St. Kitts, there are several towns across the island that offer unique tourism opportunities. One such destination is the peaceful town of Cayon, a coastal village resting in a verdant seaside valley just a few miles from Basseterre.
Though the scenery and friendly spirit of Cayon can be appreciated throughout the year, the town is an especially exciting destination during the annual late spring celebration known as the Green Valley Festival.
Despite being little-known outside of St. Kitts, the Green Valley Festival is actually the island's second-largest event behind the immensely popular national Carnival celebration. Those visiting Cayon can also explore Spooner's Ginnery, one of the most interesting historic industrial sites in the Caribbean.
Though the town of Cayon receives far fewer visitors than the capital city of Basseterre, this austere community is said to be one of the friendliest in St. Kitts. Much of the town's welcoming nature seems to stem from the locals' spirituality - the small community is home to nine distinct churches - and simple, relaxing way of life.
Cayon is also home to some of the St. Kitts' most unique scenery, as the town rests in a mountain valley near the Caribbean shoreline that is surrounded by verdant pastures and sugar cane fields.
While the scenery of Cayon is certainly a worthwhile attraction, the town has far more to offer during the month of May.
Each year since 1997, the Green Valley Festival has helped St. Kitts welcome the summer season with live music, unique Caribbean cuisine and other special events. Since its inception, the Green Valley Festival has represented a true community effort, as citizens of Cayon organize and operate the event with the assistance of a select group of local sponsors.
Having expanded each year, the Green Valley Festival now features a expansive lineup of local and regional musicians - performing everything from reggae, calypso and other Caribbean genres to soul, gospel and rock - numerous food vendors offering island-inspired cuisine and artists selling their hand-crafted creations.
Much of the action at the Green Valley Festival revolves around centrally located Maynard's Park, site of the primary music and event stage.
One of the most popular events at the Green Valley Festival is the elegant and uniquely Caribbean Queen Pageant.
Each year, several local women don their most ornate, island-inspired dresses and compete on stage for a chance to represent the close-knit community and a seat of honor in the festival's closing parade.
During the parade, the Green Valley Festival Queen rides amongst local marching bands, dance troupes and other costumed performers that demonstrate some of the region's lesser-known art forms. As the closing parade traverses nearly all of Cayon, excellent vantage points can be found on several of the town's narrow streets.
One of St. Kitts' most interesting colonial sites rests along the northeastern shore, just a few miles from Cayon. Spooner's Ginnery - also known as Spooner's Estate - is home to the last remaining cotton ginnery on St. Kitts, one of the most significant relics from the island's transition from colonial rule to a modern economy.
From the mid-18th century until the turn of the 20th century, Spooner's Estate served as one of the island's most productive sugar mills. After the property changed hands, the new owners converted the steam-powered sugar mill to a mechanical gin and began growing cotton in the rolling fields.
Spooner's Ginnery remained in operation until the 1970s when the local government purchased the property and began treating the site as an unofficial historic destination.
Today, visitors to Spooner's Ginnery can explore ruins that span three centuries of St. Kitts' unique industrial and cultural history. The site of the ginnery also offers excellent views of one of the most peaceful, rural landscapes on the island.
When visiting St. Kitts, tourists that want to experience the quiet charm of local life are encouraged to visit the town of Cayon. Though the month of May stands as the most exciting time to visit this area, tourists visiting any time of the year can still revel in Cayon's scenic seaside location and friendly atmosphere. -Justin Burch writes articles about travel for the Marriott Resorts.

>>> The U. S. Virgin Islands - Easy to get to
Welcome to the U.S Virgin Islands, the Water Paradise that awaits you on Caribbean waters. This place is a water-lover's heaven on earth. Filled with numerous options of fun-filled and adventurous activities, the Virgin Islands is one of the most-visited tourist destinations in the Caribbean islands.
We are not talking just about the sunny beaches, gleaming blue water and an enjoyable weather but also a rich culture and a vivid ethnic diversity in the Virgin Islands. The Virgin Islands are located in the eastern part of the Caribbean islands at a distance of about 1000 miles south east of Miami.
There are three major islands in the Virgin Islands of the Caribbean. They are St.Croix, St John and St.Thomas. Each of these islands exhibits a stunning uniqueness of its own. At St. Croix you would be amazed at the Danish influence that has taken over the place to a large extent. This island is perfectly fit for those who look out for a laid-back stress free holiday. There are various options available right from horse-riding to golf in this island.
The U.S. Virgin Islands are located in the eastern Caribbean, just 1100 miles southeast of Miami.
During the 17th century, the archipelago was divided into two territorial units, one English and the other Danish. Sugarcane, produced by slave labor, drove the islands' economy during the 18th and early 19th centuries. In 1917, the US purchased the Danish portion, which had been in economic decline since the abolition of slavery in 1848.
Today tourism is the primary economic activity, accounting for 80% of GDP and employment. The islands normally host 2 million visitors a year, many of whom visit on cruise ships.
A major part of St John is a national park. It also boasts of globally renowned beaches like Trunk Bay, Cinnamon Bay and Salt Pond Bay. This island is an adventure seeker's paradise. Come and soak yourself in its umpteen choices of hiking, camping, exclusive shopping and awe inspiring sceneries.
One of the most beautiful harbors of the world is situated in St.Thomas. This also has the credit of the most frequented port in the Caribbean peninsula. The island is home to various tourist spots that offer exotic culinary treats, exciting night-life and breathtaking submarine experiences.
The U.S Virgin Islands is a treasure house of surprises that has in store not just beaches and water-oriented activities but also a rich cultural experience in the form of an informative historical tour around the place, a culinary fair, artisan meets, parades and many more fun-filled activities. If you are a walk-enthusiast this is one of your best chances to explore the architectural excellence of the island. Art lovers may not miss the famous museums of Haagenson House on St. Thomas and Whim Museum in St.Croix that showcase some of the masterpieces of the rich cultural past that this island has carried forward so successfully till date.
The U.S Virgin Islands can also be the Food lover's Paradise with all its delicacies that have been handed down for generations and have been preserved with effort and precision.
There could be no other island in the world that offers ample scope for a variety of tourist activities like the Virgin Islands- beaches that are almost to yourselves, duty-free shopping, trekking, hiking, aqua-sporting activities, diving, national parks-all under one sun. Be there to enjoy the experience.
There are plenty of destinations for people interested in sailing and if you are tired of the Virgin Islands then try the rest of the Caribbean.
The Caribbean islands are part of an island chain covering 2,500 miles. Given the enormous distance, it is no surprise that tourists spend weeks out there in order to get pleasure from the splendour that it has to offer.
Just like in the Virgin Islands, there are loads of charter companies you can try for various hobbies. These firms come in different sizes, but perhaps the best is the yacht charter.
When you charter a yacht, apart from the yacht, the other features and advantages that come with it are meals, separate guest rooms, a galley, toilet and shower.
Since you are the paying guest aboard the yacht, you can modify the menu by telling the crew before the trip what you want to eat. You can help out by buying the provisions yourself, having someone from the crew do it for an additional fee or choose a set menu from one of their pre-composed packages.
Since most of the islands in the Caribbean are small and uninhabited, you are sure to see places that not many have seen. But if you can't afford to rent a chartered yacht, don't worry because you can probably get one that will cost as little as $50 if you are able to book a pre-arranged trip with several other guests to share the bill.
One thing you ought to be prepared for during you sailing vacation is the likelihood of a storm. These normally occurs in the months from June until November. If you are not sure that this is the best time, book the trip on another date.
But if you are adamant about going on your dates, there are some online tools you can utilize to check if the area you will be sailing in has ever been hit by a hurricane before.
The other option is to plan your itinerary to the Caribbean islands further south because they are less likely to be affected by a storm. These places include the islands of Aruba, Barbados, Bonaire, Curacao, and Turks and Caicos.
If you like the idea of going sailing around the Caribbean there are plenty of choices. You could do a lot worse than start in St Croix in the US Virgin Islands and travel south or west. If you start in St Croix, which the pirates of old used to call Santa Cruz, you will not have to have a passpert and can take your pets with you, but you will need more ID if you call into foreign islands.
Why not discover the world's most popular cruise - the Caribbean?
Comprising anywhere from 50 to 750 islands (depending upon how you count), the Caribbean provides a dream vacation when it comes to cruising.
The islands have a warm climate with some of the worlds best beaches, exquisite marine life along with an amazing coral reef, and exceptionally clean waters. Shopping is also a great feature with duty-free prices.
Basic Caribbean Cruise Routes Available:
1. Eastern Caribbean Cruise - Key West, the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Much more about this route in a minute.
2. Western Caribbean Cruise - the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, the island of Cozumel, and many islands off the coasts of Honduras and Belize. A cruise will take you as far east as Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. Grand Cayman in particular has many delights, including white sandy beaches and terrific water sports activities.
3. Southern Caribbean Cruise - San Juan, Puerto Rico, the Grenadines, the Lesser Antilles, and the Netherlands Antilles as far west as Aruba, the latter having 365 beautiful beaches.
4. Exotic/Long-duration Caribbean Cruise - any of the above destinations, which often ends in a different place from where the cruise started.
Eastern Caribbean Cruises
One of the most in demand tours includes the Bahamas and the eastern islands that define the border between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.
An Eastern Caribbean cruise is perfect for first-time cruisers and experienced travelers looking for a slow and relaxing pace in comfortable surroundings. These cruises are great for families because they visit only a small number of ports, so most of the cruise time is actually spent on board the ship, often with two consecutive days at sea.
There is plenty to do on the islands of the Eastern Caribbean. You can visit the famous beaches and try snorkeling, sailing, or even golf. Shop for souvenirs and luxury goods imported from around the world including jewelry, perfumes, crystal, porcelain, electronics and more at tax-free prices at the huge selection of shops. And if you are a gambler then you'll love it because the islands have the largest casinos in the Caribbean.
During an Eastern Caribbean cruise you will probably visit the following islands:
Nassau (the Bahamas) - Plenty of gambling action.
San Juan, Puerto Rico - Lots of beaches and shopping.
St Croix (Virgin Islands) - Take a night kayak trip or visit the first landing site of Christopher Columbus on his way to the New World.
St. Thomas (Virgin Islands) - Offers excellent snorkeling opportunities to see a wealth of underwater life in the shallow waters.
As well as some of the lesser known paradises.
No matter where you go on a Caribbean cruise, you'll bring home some great stories and memories.
>> Trinidad Wedding Traditions.
Weddings are usually colorful events. Some of the color is usually brought by the wedding traditions that have been carried forward for several generations. In Trinidad, there are different kinds of people who can trace their roots to the Middle East, Africa, China and India.
This and the different religions have made the wedding traditions in this Caribbean country diverse. In Trinidad traditional weddings, men are supposed to put on suits with tails at the backside. Another piece of attire that is usually included in men's clothing is the top hat.
These have to be black in color. The rest of the men's attire includes a white shirt and a bow tie. Women in these weddings usually put on dresses made from satin mostly in white but one can choose another color if they so wish. It is customary for Trinidad weddings to have processionals that include the best man and the flower girls as well. This is not very different from Toronto weddings.
In Trinidad Christian weddings, after saying the vows, the couple and their guests go to a different location for a grand party. On their way to the party venue, guests take part in traditional dances such as the shuffle on the streets. At the reception party, the guests are usually served with the traditional wedding favorites, which are dumplings and crab.
The wedding cake is usually brought to the reception venue on top of the head of a wedding guest. The cake, which is usually black in color, is wrapped in a mosquito net as traditions demand. There is usually more dancing and dances such as the reel, the quadrille and the jig, which are the most common.
Unlike Toronto weddings, in Trinidad Hindu weddings, the groom usually dresses in a four piece Indian suit that has beads and embroidery while the bride usually dresses in an Indian Mehendi. Indian weddings include Hindu religious wedding ceremony followed by a reception.
There is also much dancing in Hindu Trinidad wedding ceremonies. In Trinidad, the religious part of the Muslim wedding ceremony is usually held during the day in the presence of a few family members. The highlight of the wedding is the reception, which is usually held at night.
Trinidad Muslim brides usually put on lehengas or ghararas during the ceremonies. Some brides choose to put on the western styled wedding dresses, just like in Toronto nuptial events. The grooms in these weddings can go for a western styled suit as well. Much dancing goes on in the ceremony, especially at the reception.
A Trinidad wedding cannot be complete if there is no giving of wedding favors. It is customary for wedding guests to give the bride and groom wedding favors. The favors can be in terms of money or physical gifts.
Another tradition similar to Toronto weddings is giving of speeches. The parents of the bride and groom and any other relevant person usually give the speeches. Another wedding tradition that many couples take part in is stopping at the country's botanical gardens. The couple and their guests take photos, which is another tradition, at the gardens.
