The Art Of Selfshots and Mirror Pics to Attract and Date Men & Women Online – How to Take The Perfect Sexy Selfie!

When building an online profile for a dating site, a photo is essential.  If you don’t have a recent photo of yourself, then it’s easy to take one of yourself with a digital camera or mobile cell phone and then upload the snapshot to your profile.

The Six Steps to Taking the Perfect Selfie (whether naked selfie or traditional selfshot) are:

1. Be Honest

Remember that a photographer’s job is to tell the truth. It can be tempting in self-portraiture to only shoot images that show us in a positive light, but in all circumstances the integrity of the final image should take precedence over our sensitivity. This doesn’t mean you can’t take flattering pictures of yourself, but just consider the technical perspective instead of just considering the most complementary one. If the image tells the story you wanted to tell, whether or not you look “good” in it is secondary.

For a dating profile, you want a selfie that’s flattering — you at your sexiest and best — but you also want to capture a glimse of the real you.

2. Use Your Creativity

Just like with other types of portraiture, taking your self portrait requires a bit of creativity and thought. Think of ways that you can present yourself that are outside the norm of “person in a picture,” and try to have as much fun as possible in the process.

Try using props like costumes or dynamic lighting and interesting backgrounds that will help make your self portrait stand out.  Remember — the camera itself is a prop.  Use it as such.  For dating selfshots, the most exciting setting is your bedroom.  The most common setting (because of the availabilty of a big mirror — and the secrecy) is the bathroom.

So, have fun taking your self portrait.  For a photographer, it can be a fun break from the demands of other portraits. In fact, because the only person you have to deal with is you, the only limit on your self-portrait shoot is your own imagination.  Your selfshot, whether taken with a timer, or in a mirror, should reveal the real you.

3. Eye Contact

The eyes definitely effect the sense of the portrait.

A subject looking directly into the camera lens (directly or in a mirror) features a much different feel than one who’s focused on some thing outside of the camera frame. For an intriguing selfie, focus on something outside the frame to add awareness.  In a dating photo, that lonely guy wants to feel that the sexy woman is looking at him.

When they see your selfpic, the viewer should be asking — What are they looking at? What’s making her laugh? What exactly are they so intently enthusiastic about? Is it an object or someone?

A different idea to test is to concentrate on anything within the frame with them. A book, a pet, a sex toy. Anything to interact with and generate curiosity as well as a story.

4. Focus on A Single Section of the Body

Get a close up of just part of yourself and not just your face.

Think of the story a person’s hands show about them, particularly if they work with those hands as an artist or craftsman. What would the feet of a dancer display about your subject? Or a many-pierced ear? Or the back of a neck with a small tattoo just glimpsed at the edge of the picture?  Or, in the case of a mirror pic aimed at a BBW dating site — big gorgeous boobs and full belly.

5. Get The Lighting Right

One of the most important aspects with any type of photography is having the right lighting. You will want to insure that you have enough light, either natural or studio, to capture the subject (you) and the photo correctly.

Indirect light is much more flattering on a person so, if possible,  avoid using the on camera flash, or hot shoe mount pointed directly at you. In order to avoid a drop shadow behind you, have a good source of back light. They always say you learn best through experience so experiment with lighting to achieve a variety of effects.
