After a Breakup: 7 Tips To Getting Over A Broken Heart

What do you do after a breakup?  The agony can be almost unbearable.  If you've just received a breakup letter or are even facing a potential breakup, the result is a broken heart; known to therapists as the Broken Heart Syndrome. And it is really tough to deal with your broken heart. I've been there, so I can understand your situation. This blog posting will share seven tips on getting over a broken heart. I hope some of them will help you mend your broken heart.

1. Meditate
When your mind is cluttered with conflicting thoughts and emotions, it's very tiring both mentally and physically. A good way to calm yourself down is to meditate. You may not be familiar with meditation, but it's quite simple. You can start with taking a deep breath. Inhale through your nostrils and exhale through your mouth. If you search for "guided meditation" on video sites like YouTube, you'll find a number of guided meditation videos. Learn to meditate and do it regularly. It will help you clear your mind.

2. Write down your thoughts
In a way, this could be considered as a form of meditation: writing down your thoughts. Grab a pen and a notebook and write down whatever you are thinking and feeling at this moment. Keep writing for 30 minutes and do not worry about your handwriting or what you write. A great time to do this is right after when you woke up. Get a pen and a notebook ready by your pillow and start writing down your thoughts and feelings for 3 pages as soon as you wake up. Try this everyday. It's very soothing.

3. Do physical exercises
Instead of sitting in your room and wondering about what you did wrong in your relationship, move your body and feel better. Physical exercises will keep your blood flow and make you tired in a good way. Go for jogging, swimming, walking or playing some sports with your friends.

4. Understand everything you've experienced will teach you great lessons
You might be feeling sad. You might be feeling angry. You might be feeling lost. Whatever you are feeling at the moment, try not to push these feelings away. It's OK to feel this way and that way. In other words, try not to fight against your emotions. Accept your feelings. If you still love him/her, that's OK too. Understand that everything you have experienced will teach you lessons if you allow yourself to learn from them. When you stand up again, you will realize you've grown up as a person.

5. Keep a gratitude journal
It's great to be aware of amazing things in your life. What makes you feel grateful? Think about these things that you are grateful for and write down. When your heart is broken, you might feel like focusing on the miserable side of your life. But, if you consciously choose to focus on the good side of your life by writing down what makes you feel grateful, it will help you look at and notice positive energy around you. Keep a gratitude journal for 30 days.

6. Dream again
You need a hope right now. You need to feel alive right now. I believe the best way to feel alive and to have great hopes is to dream big. What are your big dreams? What did you want to be as a child? Where did you want to go as a child? What would you do if you could do anything? Who would you want to meet if you could meet anyone? Here's a permission to dream big! Even if your dreams sound impossible to achieve, write them down anyway. Yes, write down your big dreams and imagine you are living these dreams. Don't they make you feel alive? If they do, ask this question to yourself: What can you do today, to make one of your dreams come true? What makes you get closer to it, no matter how small step it may be?

7. Practice forgiveness
You might be angry at him/her for leaving you. Or perhaps you are confused about why he/she did that to you. I know it's hard, but practice forgiveness. Try to understand his/her situation. Can you forgive him/her? Can you let him/her go? Forgiveness and letting go are two important acts of love. If you love him/her, understand where he/she is coming from and give him/her the best love you can offer by forgiving and letting go of him/her. By practicing forgiveness, you will create more room for love. By creating more room for love, you will be able to love even more. Don't lose hope for love. Love more and you will be loved more.

When you mend your heart, you will grow up as a person and you will get your peaceful mind. I hope some of these tips will help you heal your broken heart. May your life be full of love - let yourself love people around you, things you do and your life.
