Well, girls, we've all seen the unrelenting media coverage of America’s "obesity problem." From ABC to CNN, thin news hosts introduce segments on "obesity" as if it's a crime up there with all the other hangable offenses.
The TLC network has big plans to change the way society sees "size in fashion" with their plus-size fashion reality show, BIG SEXY. The three-part series covers the lives of five women: Audrey, Heather, Leslie, Nikki, and Tiffany. These big curvy women are breaking into the fashion industry with a mission to make plus-size sexy the biggest thing in fashion. The series follows these fierce, fearless women to industry events, parties, photo shoots and will also give viewers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into their personal lives.
"People will be surprised about how relatable we all are. People assume a lot of things about plus-sized women, that we’re lazy or unhealthy, but you will see it’s not the case. We’re really funny and really interesting, I think people of all shapes and sizes and from all backgrounds will be able to relate to at least one of us," said Tiffany in a interview.
"I’m always in really uncomfortable situations, especially in situations when you are at a general casting where you can have plus-sized models and straight-sized models. You’re always looked at a little bit longer than everyone else, and there’s this big misconception in the industry that you don’t have to work as hard to be a professional plus-sized model. But there are standards and competition. I’ve had to deal with a lot of criticisms from you’re not tall enough, or small enough, or whatever enough. And of course I’ve been told I am too big for fashion, and my butt is too big. But now I joke around because my butt is what I love most about myself, and the boys don’t complain either."

So what happens in BIG SEXY?
The women, looking at us through the camera, tell us that they’ve learned to accept themselves. This appears to be true, to varying degrees. But other people, and not just fashionistas, prove to be far less accepting.
The women then attend a BBW, or "big beautiful women," party. They say that the men seem to be "chubby chasers," whom Leslie, who works in retail fashion, says are men who like big women a little too much. They’re hit on by a guy doing card tricks and then watch a "thunder thighs" competition before they leave in disgust.
After the fashion show, the women receive a lot of attention from the paparazzi, probably because of the garish outfit and makeup worn by Audrey, a 6-foot-3-inch, 335-pound makeup artist from Indiana who wants to be a designer. She tells us that she’s often mistaken for a tranvestite, even by transvestites.
"Once you go big, you never go twig," cast members agree, as they head out on the town for a boy hunt. They share booty jeans, and plan last-minute BBW (big beautiful women) fashion shows. They tell bouncers just where to stick it when they're asked for $30 for admittance after scads of thin people are let in for free. And they're completely repulsed by "thunder thigh" competitions where other rubenesque lovelies challenged each other to see who has the most jiggly thighs.
As a TLC spokesperson said, ""One thing is clear about the women of BIG SEXY, "they are big, they are beautiful, and they are not sitting at home waiting for life to happen. They know better than anyone that real women can be sexy with curves — no matter what society says!"
